The Mighty Pirates are now four-time winners of the esteemed True North Cup, as the Molson Cup in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000, and in 2012/13 and 2016/17. Looking forward to seeing it back on D. Turner's dock!

  • PREVIEW: Semi-Final A1 vs. B2: The Pirates (1-1-0) will need to beat a team they haven't beaten all season, Grrrowl (2-0-0), if they wish to have any hope of defending their Cup! Grrrowl are perfect through two playoff games, scoring six goals and allowing just three. The Pirates scraped through with a win over the Aeros. Other than their initial tie, the games between the clubs this season haven't really been close, and most have been heated affairs. It will take a special, penalty-free effort for the Pirates to advance here... but, we know they can do it!

  • PREVIEW: Semi-Final A2 vs. B1: One of the underdogs, the sixth-seeded Dirty Pucks (2-0-0) or the fifth-seeded Oilers (1-0-0), will be able to book their ticket to The Final; but, with the season series deadlocked, it's hard to know which team it will be. The Oilers finished the regular season as the Gilmour Division's hottest team, but the Dirty Pucks are unbeaten in the "new" season, taking down the fourth and second seeds. This one is too close to call, and may even take some extra time to decide. Good luck to both.

  • RECAP: Pool A, Game 1: These teams had hardly been acquainted with one another this season, but they got to know each other real quick. While equal in goals against, The Cyclones (0-1-0) had a distinct edge in goals for, with Nyhof (#94) and Gilmour (#74) leading the charge. They also had the advantage of going deep into the playoff last season. However, the Oilers (1-0-0), had one of the hottest regular season finishes in the division, going 3-1-1 down the stretch... and they shut down the Cyclones, scoring just enough to get the valuable two points!

  • RECAP: Pool B, Game 1: The Dirty Pucks (1-0-0) had yet to beat the Pirates (0-1-0) this season, and the defending Cup champion Pirates had a previously posted a 13-4-2 all-time record against them. But, this is playoff hockey, people! The Dirty Pucks put on a clinic in perseverance, winning pucks in every area of the ice. They took advantage of their opportunities, leaving the Bucs scrambling. It was certainly not the way the Pirates hoped to start the playoffs.

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 2: The red-hot Oilers (1-1-0) were dealt a dose of reality as they succumbed to the top-seeded Grrrowl (1-0-0). The Oilers defended well, but the steady, well-positioned Grrrowl provided a flow of offense that stifled any chance for an Oilers comeback.

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 2: Regular season basement dwellers, the Dirty Pucks (2-0-0), provided an even bigger upset in their second round-robin game, beating the number two seeded Aeros (0-0-1) in overtime, automatically booking their ticket to the Semi-Finals. It set up a do-or-die situation for the Aeros in their second round-robin game against you know who... your heroes!

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 3: The Cyclones (0-2-0) could redeem themselves after their disappointing playoff opener, and a 2-1 lead in the dying minutes against Grrrowl seemed like they had it in the bag. But, there is a reason Grrrowl finished tops in the Monday Gilmour Division. Elation turned to horror, as Grrrowl managed a pair with the clock ticking down, and the Cyclones watched their Cup dreams explode in their face shields. The teams also exploded for a combined 38 minutes in penalties... we wonder if Nyhof was in the box as the clock counted to zero? Hmmmmmm.

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 3: With the teams sharing a rich playoff rivalry, everyone knew this was going to be a doozy. Even Doc Sager made it out to cheer on his club! The Pirates (1-1-0) essentially needed a regulation win to move on to the Semi-Finals, but the Aeros (0-1-1) were not going down without a fight. In a hard-fought, low-scoring game, the Bucs would not relinquish the lead they gained with 51 seconds left in the second period, and stand-up heroics from Lella ensured the Pirates would be moving on! With the extra attacker, it was a miracle the Aeros didn't score in the final 80 second onslaught.
