2008-12-08: Mighty Pirates 3 vs. Wild Rovers 10

Game Sheet

News Deck - The Howie Report Who are these Wild Rovers (8-2-0), and why are they scoring so many goals?

The mystery would finally be solved Monday as the Mighty Pirates (7-3-0) faced the unknown Rovers for their first game at Ricoh Coliseum this season. The solution: they are simply that good ... or dare I say, that unf**king believably great!

The Wild Rovers moved the puck around like magic, and skated like they were from another planet. All-star Zenko showed why he leads the division in scoring, racking up a natural hat-trick before six minutes had elapsed on the clock. It was a hockey clinic for your heroes.

Mutch claims that by the end of the game, his opposing centermen were taking draws with just one hand on their sticks ... and still winning!

Nonetheless, the Pirates did score three goals, which is three more than the critics were predicting ... regardless if the Rovers obeyed Don Cherry's rule of not racking up the score or not, that's still a victory in and of itself.

Rookie Zsirai picked up a goal and an assist in just his second game this season, while hard-working Sturgeon picked up his first assist of the season in the dying moments of the game.
