Game Sheet

News Deck - The Howie Report Oh, Mighty Pirates!

It has been nearly two weeks since our last game, and I am hard-pressed to remember the details of our last game against the Whoevers. Without a game sheet to refer to, I cannot remember whether we won or lost, but I think we won. The score was 3-1 or 4-1 or 3-2, and I remember we had an empty-netter in the last seconds (or not). There may have been a lot of hilarious banter in the locker room beforehand, and some people definitely made rude comments about something. I seem to recall that our captain made an appearance, though I cannot quite recall his name. I distinctly remember, however, that he (or she) scored a magnificent goal with a blast from the slot (or point) in the second (or third or first period) which gave us the lead (or tied it up), and then someone else scored sometime later - and it was also a beaut (or a fluke). We had a full bench (or almost) and only two subs (S. Klein and E. Mintz), though I do not remember whether it was Evan or I who gave the young Klein a ride. I think I forgot to call any other subs, but I cannot remember. In any case, some guys played centre, some played right wing, some left wing and the rest played defence. They forwards must have really forechecked and backchecked (because we won, I think), and covered their point men really well (sometimes). And the defence and the goalie (I think it was Matthew) stood on his head (or his feet or his skates) and made a lot of great plays, some of which someone will no doubt remember forever (or a little while, but of course I can't remember them at all).

Oh, yeah, the other guys played really well (or dirty), and they tried really hard, but they were stopped by our defence (or tripped on the blue line). There were not too many penalties (or too many), and the refs were really bad (that is probably true no matter what my memory says). We all had a good time and we drank beer (or 7-Up), had wings (and/or nachos) and pizza (with or without pepperoni, or maybe just on half) - except I think I was not there because I had a party to go to. Most of the guys showed up at the bar (whatever it's called) and it was a jovial after-game affair (probably).

In any case, we do have another game (I have memory aids for this on the interweb) next Monday, the 21st, at 7:10 pm on RINX 2 against the Corpap Cobras. They are good (or not), and we need to know who of the regulars will be here and who of the subs are available. Please let us know so that we can give the subs as much notice as possible. If we play Pirate Brand Hockey® (whatever that is - I keep reading about it in the old Howie Reports, but dang if I can remember what it means), we will win (or not) and have fun (for sure!).
