Another Crazy Win for Pirates as Mola's Return Sparks Dramatic Turn-Around!
2010-01-04: Mighty Pirates 3 vs. Silver Blades 1

Game Sheet

News Deck - The Howie Report Despite numerous last minute cancellations by Pirate roster players, the MPs manage to send 12 (and in the second period 13) skaters on the ice, and outperform (again) against a very talented Silver Blades team. Playing another game of Pirate Brand Hockey® to perfection, the boys wearing black outplayed and outlasted the white-wearing Blades, notching a dramatic 3-1 win.

A first period goal late in the frame by Mutch assisted Leggett and Turner put the boys on top, and a rocket blast that was a nuclear missile fired by Sousa from the slot right off the face-off was the second tally — their goalie never saw it! When the Blades scored to make it 2-1, they really turned up the heat, but Lella stood on his head to keep us in it. A dying-seconds empty-netter by Johnny Mutch (with an assist to S. Klein — I hope that gets recorded on the stats sheet) careened off the boards trying to clear the puck out of our end — after they had pulled their goalie and were pressing — put the capper on a doozie of a game.

Three full forward lines and four fabulous D (JJ, Bingham, S. Klein and E. Mintz) played great and made us proud. The captain's return has certainly seen the Pirates' fortunes change in a hurry. Whether it is his leadership style in the locker room, his hard work setting an example on the ice, or his powerful shots and strong fore-checking and back-checking, it is clear that the MPs are 3-1 since his return and they have outscored their opponents 13-10. That is saying something.

Next up are the Ice Demons next Monday, January 11, at 8:10 on RINX 2. What the heck are those guys still doing in this division? Oh, well, we won't count that one in the stats - a meaningless game. Let's go out, have a good skate, have some fun and then go have beer and wings and pizza. After all, isn't that what being a Pirate is all about?
