The Howie-Les Report... Bombs Away!
2012-09-17: Mighty Pirates 2 at Tiger Bomb 5

Game Sheet

News Deck - The Howie Report Well, there certainly was no easing into the 2012/2013 season! The Pirates (0-1-0) came to the arena prepared for their 20th season debut, decked out in their glorious new third jerseys! Who knew they would come up against a super-conditioned, well-positioned and offensively explosive team like Tiger Bomb (1-0-0)?!

With Shofar Fever gripping Pirate Nation®, Captain Mola was left with fewer line options. However, Butler and Kitchen were available to fill in from the farm team in Barrie, and boy did they look great! All the winter boys who took the summer off made the summer Pirates look a little... how do you say... un-athletic? Thanks guys!

The Tiger Bomb speed was evident early on as Ames(#6), and others, dazzled the empty arena seats with their footwork. Just over two minutes into the game, Ames put his team up with a sharp unassisted marker.

While it looked like the Bucs could be in trouble early, Jezioranski exploded up the ice, squeezing through two defenders to deke home a marvellous short-handed goal! But it wouldn't stay tied for long. Tiger Bomb would score on the same powerplay, and notch another goal in the final minute of the first period for a 1-3 lead. While they could have caved, the Pirates didn't.

The middle frame was entirely scoreless, but certainly not without action. Lella was instrumental in keeping the game within reach. And, while they weren't going to match their opponents' speed, the Bucs did start to generate some of their own scoring chances.

A Tiger Bomb goal midway through the third period did pretty much seal the deal, and another with 1:20 on the clock certainly did.

The Pirates didn't let it finish that way, however, as Gallivan neatly banked a pass off the boards in his own zone to a streaking J. Sager. He, as Jezioranski before him, deked through two defenders and slid home the final goal in a 2-5 loss.

While, surely, no one wanted the losing streak to continue (now at 14 straight losses!), it was an effort the Pirates can be proud of.

Up next, the Brewmasters (1-0-0) at 8:20pm on Rinx 1, September 24, 2012. If you're not there, you better be drunk!
