Round-By-Round Playoff Coverage

Last Updated: Friday, May 6th, 2016 at 12:26am

The Mighty Pirates are three-time winners of the esteemed True North Cup (as the Molson Cup in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000) after bringing The Cup back home in 2012/13. This year... no such luck!

  • RECAP: The Finals: A Cup Final between the fifth and third seeds is no less a Cup Final... each of these teams earned the right to be here, without a doubt. In fact, the Dirty Pucks' two playoff wins had come at the expense of the division's top two seeds. However, beating Exposed was something they hadn't done all season, and it would be another lopsided loss in The Final. Exposed were a perfect 4-0-0 through the playoffs, deserved winners of The Cup!

  • RECAP: Semi-Final A: A tense, low-scoring playoff battle saw the Brewstars take Exposed to the brink, but they couldn't find a way to even the scoring in the dying minutes... even with the goalie pulled. The perfect 3-0-0 Exposed showed they could battle hard after two easy playoff wins, and will look to show the Dirty Pucks who's boss in the Cup Final. The Brewstars get to blow the snow off of their golf clubs.

  • RECAP: Semi-Final B: The Pirates scored two early goals, but carried on with a lacklustre, poorly executed effort that had them hemmed in their own zone on a multitude of occasions. The Dirty Pucks went hard to the puck, and executed quick, swift passes that had the Bucs reeling. With a commanding effort, the fifth seed Dirty Pucks are headed to the Cup Final, while your heroes packed it in for the season. What a shame.

  • RECAP: Pool A, Game 1: The Dirty Pucks have given some of the best teams in the division a run for their money this year... but, this wasn't the way they wanted to start the playoffs. When Exposed is at the top of their game, they can move the puck very quickly and paralize their opponents. The Dirty Pucks couldn't defend against it on this night, and now their playoff lives hang in the balance as they get set to face the top-seeded Heisenberg.

  • RECAP: Pool B, Game 1: the Cyclones did get their first point of the season (in December!) against the Brewstars, but none of their other games this season had been close. This game was no exception, as the much improved Brewstars did what they had to do, and didn't make any defensive mistakes in the process. Do the Cyclones have what it takes to get back into the playoff picture with a win against your heroes Monday?

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 2: The Dirty Pucks had Heisenberg's number early on in the season, but the momentum shifted in favour of the division title winners as the year progressed. All of their games were close this season, but this was a true playoff shocker. The Dirty Pucks worked as a team and found a way to put the division title winner's back against the wall!

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 2: Even though the Cyclones had yet to beat the heavily-favoured Pirates all season, their previous meeting was in no way an easy affair for your heroes. The Cyclones came out with a gritty effort... but, three straight second period goals were too much to overcome. The Pirates knew they could score... but, a solid defensive effort helped ensure them a ticket to the Semi-Finals.

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 3: Heisenberg needed to rebound from a disastrous loss to the fifth seed Dirty Pucks, but they did not come to play. The division title winners were shellacked by the extremely well-positioned Exposed, and their Cup hopes were dead in two swift games. No time for Exposed celebrations however, as the Brewstars would be waiting... poised to give them a much bigger challenge in the Semi-Final.

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 3: While both teams had already booked their tickets to the Semi-Finals, neither wanted to go there on a losing note. The Pirates would open a four-goal lead just over four and a half minutes into the game, but the Brewstars did not pack it in. Perhaps if they had another five minutes to work with, they may have had a miraculous comeback on their hands. This could have been a Cup Final preview... yes, could have!
