  • RECAP: The Finals: It was the #1 seed against #2, destined to be a Starbucks Cup® to remember ... and it was. Both teams were undefeated in the playoffs, and both had exemplified balanced, well-positioned hockey. Neither team wanted to make any mistakes as was a game of inches. The Drunken Monkeys took a 0-1 lead early in the second period, and despite a few crossbars the Pirates didn't get the dramatic equalizer until two seconds remained on the clock. The dream came to an end, however, with just 14 seconds left in overtime. A spirited effort that both teams can be proud of.

  • RECAP: Semi-Final A: The Mighty Pirates came in as favourites based on their balanced scoring prowess, but it was a defensive brand of hockey that paved the way to the Finals. Komets 2.0 weren't very pleased to have two goals waved off, but to be a Champion requires shaking off the things that are out of your control.

  • RECAP: Semi-Final B: These teams had scored a mere goal between them in their previous two meetings. The season series was tied and they both finished the regular season with 26 points. As expected, this was another close game, but the Monkeys, who rely less on superstars and more on balanced play were able to rise to the task.

  • RECAP: Pool A, Game 1: The Aeros' fifth place finish was not indicative of how they can play, though their goal production had dipped drastically compared to recent years. The Steelheads have scoring punch with the #66/#99 combo, and that showed when they crushed the Aeros 7-2 in their previous outing in February. As expected, this was another close, low-scoring grinder. In the end, the Aeros just didn't have the offensive punch.

  • RECAP: Pool B, Game 1: Komets 2.0 had been outscored 2-14 in three lop-sided losses to the Tigers this season, and with only one win in their last nine games not many had the sixth seed pegged to win this one. The Tigers, on the other hand, were 7-3-0 in their final ten games, and were scoring goals in bunches. They also had the fewest PIMs in the division. We said it would take a miracle for Komets 2.0 to get a win here ... and, miracles do happen ... big time!

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 2: The expectations were high for the Mighty Pirates, especially since a win would earn them an early spot in the Semi-Finals. Of course, they hadn't won a playoff game in close to three years, and their six-game playoff losing streak started with back-to-back games against the Aeros — with the Cup on the line! This was one that nearly got away, but some solid penalty killing, pretty goals and key saves from Sturgeon, saw the Pirates through.

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 2: After thrashing the heavily favoured Tigers last week, the last place Komets 2.0 could have clinched a spot in the Semi-Finals with a win tonight. Of course, the #2 seed Drunken Monkeys, with their convicing 3-0-0 season series lead over the Komets, presented a pretty big challenge. It was a tight battle, but the Monkeys managed to keep the Komet attack under control setting up a big game next week between themselves and the Tigers. We won't know how this Pool shapes up until then.

  • RECAP: Group A, Game 3: For what some called a "meaningless" game, this was a real barnburner! Sturgeon was out of action, but legendary veteran Lella filled in beautifully. The Pirates stayed out of the box, and executed perfect Pirate Brand Hockey to complete the Round Robin with a perfect 2-0 record. The Steelheads are not done, however, and would love another shot at the Bucs in the Finals.

  • RECAP: Group B, Game 3: This game definitely meant something to the Tigers, who were on the verge of elimination. While they did fare better than in their first playoff game of 2011, they came up a little short, allowing the Drunken Monkeys to move ahead to the Semi-Finals.
