Round-By-Round Playoff Coverage

Last Updated: Thursday, April 2nd, 2015 at 12:05am (EST)

The Mighty Pirates are three-time winners of the esteemed True North Cup (as the Molson Cup in 1998/1999 and 1999/2000) after bringing The Cup back home in 2012/13! They couldn't defend their silverware last season... and they couldn't even win a playoff game this year. You can follow this season's tragic journey below:

  • Round One: Pirates 0 at Rage 2 / Haymakers 0 at Ice Pods 3
  • Round Two: Ice Pods 2 at Rage 0 / Pirates 1 at Haymakers 6
  • Round Three: Rage 3 vs Haymakers 0
  • The Finals: Ice Pods 1 at Rage 4 / Ice Pods 1 at Rage 2 (SO)

Monday GilmourMonday Gilmour 'A' Division - Finals
  • Game 6 Recap: It's always tough to face a team that has already beat you in the playoffs... especially when you have to beat them twice! But, the Rage (2-1) got halfway there in a big 4-1 win over the Ice Pods (2-1). The extra week off didn't seem to pay dividends for the Ice Pods, and there was little time for contemplation. Bring on GAME 7!

  • Game 7 Recap: The Ice Pods (2-2) had something very few of us get... another chance! They knew they'd already beat the Rage (4-1) — in the playoffs, no less — but, for the Rage, they simply needed to understand they'd controlled this division all season long. We didn't want to make a prediction... and, sure enough, it went to a dreaded shootout! League MVP van Passen stopped all four shots he faced, while the Rage scored a couple en route to Canada's greatest prize... the True North Cup!

  • Game 5 Recap: The Rage (1-1) were surprised to be in this predicament, but they were up against a team they'd been able to handle all season long... the Haymakers (1-1). The Haymakers were fresh off a 6-1 pounding and elimination of the Pirates (0-2), but they wouldn't find any goals on this night. The Rage got back to their stifling ways moving on to The Finals, while the Haymakers were going to join the Pirates for some fun, friendly, off-season golf action — NOT!

Monday GilmourMonday Gilmour 'A' Division - Round Two
  • Game 3 Recap: The Rage (1-1) had dominated the season series, but you would have been crazy not to think the Ice Pods (2-0) could take this game considering how well they played down the stretch. With their second straight shutout to open the playoffs, the Ice Pods moved on to the Finals while the Rage optioned for "The Long Road to the Cup"® via Round Three

  • Game 4 Recap: It's never a good time for your scoring to dry up... especially in the playoffs! But, the Pirates (0-2) hadn't scored in two straight games; and, they were up against a team they haden't beat all season! The Haymakers (0-1) weren't the most explosive offensive team, but they could score... and they certainly did. The Pirates ended their season with a blowout, while the Haymakers got another chance to get to the Cup in Round Three.

Monday GilmourMonday Gilmour 'A' Pool - Round One
  • Game 1 Recap: The top seeded Toronto Rage (1-0) got back to their winning ways to open the playoffs, proving to the world why they led the division in fewest goals against. The Pirates (0-1) were essentially suffocated, unable to generate the scoring opportunities they needed. But, up until the final five minutes, a lucky bounce could have evened the score for your heroes. It was a well-played game, and fans of both clubs were hoping for a rematch en route to the Cup. The Rage would take on the Ice Pods (1-0) in Round Two with a chance to advance directly to The Cup Finals, while the Pirates will would their mettle in a "do-or-die" match with the Haymakers (0-1).

  • Game 2 Recap: The Ice Pods (1-0) had a slight advantage over the Haymakers (0-1) in just about every statistical angle; however, it was the Haymakers who swept the seasons series between the two teams. It's always a tough mental fight when you meet a team in the playoffs you haven't beaten all season, but the Ice Pods shut the door and scored three goals to boot. The Haymakers would face your Pirates (0-1) in a Round Two "do-or-die" match, while the Ice Pods took on the top-seeded Rage (1-0) with a chance to advance directly to The Cup Finals!
